Do I Have Endometriosis? A Physician's Self-Screening Guide

The rules for diagnosing endometriosis changed in March 2026. This guide walks you through the criteria your clinician is now supposed to use — and gives you a symptom record to bring with you.

You no longer need surgery to be diagnosed with endometriosis. In March 2026, ACOG made clinical diagnosis the standard: endometriosis can now be diagnosed from your symptoms, an examination, and imaging. Laparoscopy is no longer required to name the condition or to start treating it.
